Creative Space

What does an artist need in their workspace in order to have their creative needs met? What kind of space facilitates those peak creative experiences where the electric flow between your thoughts, your emotions, and your actions is unleashed? It’s a curious thing to experiment with not just what or how you might create, but where. We sometimes fixate on and obsess over the finished product or the process of our creative activities without really considering how the spaces we make in end up making us.

Place matters—all the more so for creative initiative and inspiration.

It’s not really surprising that the spaces we occupy end up influencing us in the most subtle and unconscious ways. Think historically: places of worship, in whatever spiritual traditions come to mind, are meant to transport you somewhere higher, to elevate your thoughts and your perceptions beyond the everyday experiences of life.

Maybe that’s a bit more grand than we need to be. Maybe try this thought experiment with me.

Imagine you’ve opened a door into room where everything you could ever want is within your grasp and waiting for you. The light is perfectly soft through the high and bright windows, and the colors that kiss your eyes have an amazing effect of slowing down your breathing. As you step into the room, you actually feel lighter. Simply being in this space gives you access to thoughts and feelings you hadn’t had before. You’re ready to get to work; you find your place and settle in. You’re not daunted by the possibilities. You are sure of what you want, and you begin.

That’s the power of a space. We all have creative potentialities within us; it’s our birthright and our heritage from time immemorial. When creativity enters the chat, the places we go to create and to feel creative become even more significant.

That feeling of rarified air, that ability of a place to change our thoughts and our actions is what informs The Art Bloc Sausalito. As creative individuals ourselves, we know how crucial the right space can be to give birth to your most unique and challenging ideas. We think of our studio and even our collaborative coworking space as cathedrals of creativity meant to unlock your deepest creative self so that you have access to new thoughts, new perspectives, new inspirations, and new initiatives.
